Although there are a lot of sandy beaches in Vancouver, a lot of the shoreline around the city is covered in rocks that are exposed during low tide like in this photo.
When the tide is low just out past Spanish banks there is a area with about 10 cm of water, on a calm day it gives quite the reflection as far as the eye can see.
During the winter in Vancouver the sun rises more from the south. On a good day the sunrise colors the local mountains to the north with a nice glow. Unfortunately, there aren't that many "good" days during the winter because the clouds normally obscure the view of the mountains. I was lucky to be up one morning when it was clear enough to get a good sunrise.
