I took this photo in Banff a couple of weeks ago. It started as a beautiful day with blue skies, then the wind changed and you could see this cloud of smoke filling the sky, by the next day all the mountain disapeared into a haze of smoke and we lost our view of the mountains for the rest of the trip.
This was my second time photographing two Jack Lake, the first time was 5 years earlier when I was still really working on learning photography. So I was looking forward to going back to the same spot to see what better photos I could get now that I have a lot more experience. Five years ago I had the spot to myself, alone with the sunrise, but this time when I arrived there was a photography class already setup with tripods where I shot last time and a half dozen other small groups of photographers lining the lake. So, I took a walk around the lake until I was far enough away that I could see or hear anyone else and captured this photo while I was enjoying the sunrise.
Checking out the view in Dinosaur provincial park in Alberta.
