While eastern China rapidly develops by exporting good around the world many areas of western China have been left behind. This town in southern Yunnan province, just before the Burma border crossing, had unreliable electricity and was missing many of the "comforts" of developed society, like indoor plumbing and refrigeration. They lived a simple life raising their crops and tending to livestock, much as they have for hundreds of years.
