Well Known Lake
Another photo from the same morning this photo was taken is by far my most popular photo with many thousands of views and shares on the various sites. This one was taken only 10 minutes later, the red sunset had changed to orange but is still pretty striking.
Moraine Lake Sunrise
One of the most beautiful (and photographed) lakes in Canada, Moraine Lake.
Lake Louise Canoe
Canoes can be rented at Lake Louis, this big red one comes with a Canada flag on the back. Great way for tourists from other countries to experience Canada's beauty.
Across the Athabasca River
The Athabasca river is designated a Canadian Heritage river for its importance in the fur trade and the construction of railways and roads. It originates in Jasper National Park and has a beautiful blue color like many of the rivers in the Canadian Rockies.
Lake Louise
This must be one of the most photographed places in Canada. I didn't get great weather for photos because it was cloud when I was there but still and impressive place.
Icefields Parkway Bow Lake
Bow Lake is one of the many amazing lakes along the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper. National geographic once rated the Banff - Jasper drive along the Icefields parkway as one of the top 10 in the world and it is definitely one of the most amazing in Canada.
Reflective Clouds Along Trans Canada Highway
The trans Canada highway runs next to the rock in the top left of the frame. Most people just whiz by but it is worth a stop to enjoy the natural beauty.
Vermilion Lakes Marshland
Next to the Vermilion lakes is some marshy areas. I was able to tip toe through the wet marsh with my water proof hiking boots to get this shot while keeping my feet dry.
Vermilion Lakes Dock Side
The Vermilion lakes just outside of Banff town are pretty stagnant in late July which makes perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. We were not able to chill on this dock for long because of the swarms of mosquitoes. However, it would be a great place to relax in the fall once the mossies are gone.
Vermilion Lakes Perfect Reflection
Just out side of Banff is a small road that runs parallel to the Trans Canada highway. This little side road offers some spectacular views of the Vermilion lakes.
Yellow Mountain Top
As the sun set the light lit this peak with a nice yellow glow.
Two Jack Lakeside View
Two jack lakeside is the most popular campsite in Banff National Park. They don't take reservations and give campsites on a first come first serve bases. So, I showed up at 7:00am the day we wanted to stay there and ended up getting a prime site right on the lake. I took this photo about 20 meters from our campsite, worth the early morning wait for this view.
Kootenay View
Took this while driving up highway 93 through Kootenay national park. The highway runs parallel to the rivers and every once and a while there is an opening where you can see the river wind between the mountains.
Rundle Mountain Reflection
Rundle mountain isn't far from the town of Banff, doubly beautiful here with the reflection in this still pond.
Clear Rockey Mountain Creek
It is amazing how clean and clear the water is up in the Rockies. Check out this stream, perfectly transparent.
Purple Mountain Flowers
When we visited Waterton Lakes, there were a lot of flowers in bloom. There were fields and fields of these purple ones. Near the end of July is a great time to be in the Rockies.
Prince Of Wales Hotel At Waterton Lakes
This is the postcard shot from Waterton Lakes. Had to get up pretty early to get this photo so it would have that glow from the sunrise. However, I think the photo I took from right behind me, with the sun rising next to the road is actually a better photo. What do you think?
Point Me Towards The Hotel
The building in the distance is the Prince of Wales hotel in Waterton Lakes National Park. Built in 1927 it is one of the largest all wood buildings in Alberta and has been designated a Canadian National Historic site.
Waterton Lakes Log
Waterton Lakes National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the prince of Wales hotel is a Canadian National historic site, both featured in this photo.
Beautiful sunset over the Alberta badlands
Took this in Dinosaur provincial park in Alberta, an amazing place to visit if you ever get the chance.
Two Jack Lake Reflection
Early morning mountain reflection on Two Jack Lake in Banff National Park.
Smoky Vermilion Lakes
Another photo from Banff as the smoke rolled in over Vermillion Lakes.
Banff Wildfire
I took this photo in Banff a couple of weeks ago. It started as a beautiful day with blue skies, then the wind changed and you could see this cloud of smoke filling the sky, by the next day all the mountain disapeared into a haze of smoke and we lost our view of the mountains for the rest of the trip.
