No Place To Go

Herons regularly fish along the shores of Vancouver but on this warm August Sunday the tide was out in the afternoon so the beaches will filled with playing dogs and children, making much fewer place for the herons to fish. I found this one a ways from the popular beaches fishing peacefully till I bothered him by snapping some photos.

Ripple Over Ripple

Low tide is a great time to take photos, you never know what is going to become visible once the water goes down, like these cool ripples in the sand.

Windy Low Tide

Saw this Heron fishing on a warm August afternoon in the low tide near Vancouver. He wasn't to disturbed by me and kept looking for fish as I photographed.

Clear Days

We don't get nearly enough clear days in Vancouver, but when we do the views everywhere are spectacular. This photo was taken from the beach just north of the University of British Columbia campus.

All Sky

When the tide is low just out past Spanish banks there is a area with about 10 cm of water, on a calm day it gives quite the reflection as far as the eye can see.

Rocky Road

Although there are a lot of sandy beaches in Vancouver, a lot of the shoreline around the city is covered in rocks that are exposed during low tide like in this photo.

Western Skies

One morning my two week old daughter had me awake at 4:00 am and as she fell asleep around 5:30 I noticed it was going to be a pretty good sunrise so I headed down to this old pier to take some photos. This one is as the sun was just rising over the coastal mountains around 6:00 am.

Cloudy Ripple

Taken from my favorite spot down by the water near my place in Vancouver. I have a similar photo many times but it always ends up different because the clouds are different and the tide changes, makes it interesting.

Saw this long and not sure how the circular patten on the end came about but like how the picture turned out.

Guarding Vancouver

Herons still fish along the shore line of Vancouver.  The large west coast city in the background doesn't seem to bother the heron or affect the fishing.   This is the closest one of them has ever let me get, this one flew away after I snapped a couple of shots.

Vancouver Full Moon

Coming back from salmon fishing at sunset the sunset lit Vancouver as the moon rose above the city, this was one of the last nice days before the clouds of winter came into the city.

Canadian West Coast Fishing

Every year salmon fill the water just off Vancouver and sizable fish can be caught just an hours boat ride from the city. Took this photo just before calling it a day as the sun set in the west and the moon rose in the east over the city.

Water Hazard

Not sure what these barriers were meant to stop me from going but they make for a good photo ...

Fog Rolling In

The fog coming in off the water into downtown Vancouver. About 5 minutes after I took this photo the city disappeared into the fog.

Bare Tree

I am sure I have gone by this tree over a hundred times and never noticed it but this day it really stood out as the sun set, couldn't help but stop for a picture.

Christmas Balloons

The Christmas lights on Trinity street sure do get you in the holiday spirit.

Lighthouse Top

The way the angles worked out, I was only able to get the very top of the lighthouse in this pools reflection, still better than no reflection at all I guess.

Water Wood Chips

Logs are very normal along the shores of British Columbia but I don't know how all these wood chips got to the shore line in Lighthouse Park .... thoughts?

Banks of West Vancouver

It is a bit hard to see, but downtown Vancouver is far in the distance past this rock that I photographed along the bank of West Vancouver.
