About this Chesterman Beach wall art
Chesterman Beach sits a few minutes south of Tofino, a long run of sand between two rocky points with Frank Island joined to it by a bar at low tide. When the tide goes out here it goes a long way, and from a deck at the back of the beach the whole flat opens up, wet sand, a line of surf and the treed islands at the far edge.
We took a rental on the beach for a weekend in April 2013 and these four chairs were the best seats in the house. I came out early on the Sunday with the deck still wet from the night and the tide right out, and the chairs were lined up facing the sand as if they were waiting for the show. I set up behind them at 17mm and let them hold the front row.

About This Spot
This frame was made from the deck of a rental house midway along Chesterman Beach, looking across the low-tide sand toward Frank Island, which joins the beach by a sand bar when the water is out. Chesterman Beach is a public beach about 5 kilometres south of Tofino, free and open all year, with access paths at the ends of Lynn Road and Chesterman Beach Road, though the deck itself belongs to a private rental. The beach faces west, so the sunsets land straight out front, and on a clear morning the light comes over the trees behind you and lies across the sand the way it does here.
