About this Florencia Bay wall art
Florencia Bay is the quieter beach in the Long Beach Unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, a long curve of dark sand below forested bluffs between Ucluelet and Tofino. Once the tide drops the sand sits wet and smooth, and whatever crosses it next leaves a clean record until the water comes back.
I walked the bay one April evening in 2011 with the low sun coming in off the water, and I was not the first out since the tide. A dog and its owner had gone ahead of me in the same direction, long out of sight by then, but their two lines of tracks ran up the beach toward the far headland and told the story on their own.
Beach pictures suit the quiet rooms of a house, a hallway, a bedroom, the landing at the top of the stairs. This Florencia Bay photo print puts that walk on the wall, two sets of tracks and the bay they shared, and as Ucluelet wall art it keeps a little of the Pacific Rim in the house all year.

About This Spot
This Florencia Bay print was made on the open sand partway along the bay. Florencia Bay sits in the Long Beach Unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve about 15 minutes north of Ucluelet, reached by the stairs from the Florencia Bay parking lot at the end of Wick Road, by the Nuu-chah-nulth Trail from the Kwisitis Visitor Centre, or by the Willowbrae and Halfmoon Bay trails from the south end. A Parks Canada park pass is needed and the park is open year-round, though the beach walk depends on the tide. The light is best in the last two hours before sunset, when the sun comes in low over the water and raises every track in the wet sand.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
