About this Wild Pacific Trail wall art
Amphitrite Point Lighthouse stands on the dark rock at the southern tip of the Ucluelet peninsula, marking the entrance to Barkley Sound. The Lighthouse Loop of the Wild Pacific Trail runs right past it, spruce and salal on one side and open Pacific on the other, and the weather out here arrives and leaves with little warning.
The storm had just passed when we started walking the loop one April evening in 2011. The rain moved out to sea ahead of us and the sun came back behind it, so by the time we reached the lighthouse the cloud was a bright wall over the water and the grass and shore rock had gone gold. I made this frame from the gravel path as the squall cleared the point.
What stays with me is the timing, the squall gone and the light back before the sky had settled. This Ucluelet wall art holds that minute, and as an Amphitrite Point Lighthouse print it shows the coast as it was that evening, rain on its way out and the tower in the sun.

About This Spot
This Ucluelet print was made from the gravel path of the Lighthouse Loop, a short way up the trail from Amphitrite Point Lighthouse, looking along the shore rock toward the tower with the open Pacific beyond. The loop is a 2.6 kilometre section of the Wild Pacific Trail, reached from the end of Coast Guard Road or from the He-Tin-Kis Park parking lot on Peninsula Road, free, open year-round and a few minutes' drive from downtown Ucluelet. The low evening sun comes in off the water and lights the grass and rock from the side, and in spring the squalls move through fast enough that the sky can change between one bend of the trail and the next.

About the Prints

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
