About this Sturdies Bay wall art
The east shore of Galiano Island runs out into the water in long, smooth shelves of sandstone, and below the tide line the rock is crusted with barnacles and small blue mussels. This side of the island faces the Lower Mainland, so the lights across the Strait of Georgia stay on all night, and on a calm evening the colour of the sky settles straight into the shallows.
I stayed on these rocks one June evening in 2013 as the final light fell. The stars came out first, then the colour in the water, and the mussels along the edge began to catch the glow and twinkle like little blue lights. I left the shutter open for 30 seconds so the waves lapping over the rock went smooth around them.
Small things carry this frame. Shells holding the last of the sky, a few cabin lights in the firs, the far shore going dark. It is Galiano Island night sky wall art for the room where you end the day, a Galiano Island photo print that keeps those small blue lights on.

About This Spot
The mussel rocks sit on the low sandstone shore a short way north of the Sturdies Bay ferry terminal, at the southeast end of Galiano Island, looking out across the water toward the Lower Mainland. BC Ferries sail to Sturdies Bay from Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen, and the shelves are easiest to walk at lower tides, when the mussel beds are exposed. In June the twilight lingers late on this side of the island, and a long exposure after the last light turns the waves smooth around the rocks.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
