About this Montague Harbour wall art
Montague Harbour opens off the west side of Galiano Island, a sheltered anchorage where sailboats sit out the evening and a provincial park covers the peninsula along its edge. Between the beaches the shore is Galiano sandstone, grey-brown ledges worn into honeycomb pits and swirls by salt and tide, crusted with barnacles and rockweed wherever the water reaches.
Most visitors walk straight to the white shell beach, and I nearly did too, but on this June evening in 2013 the rock caught the light better. I found a ridge that ran out into the harbour like a low pier and set up at its base with a wide lens, so the ledges lead to the water and the sunset doubles in it beside an anchored sailboat.
Up close the stone carries as much of the picture as the sky. This Montague Harbour wall art holds the pitted sandstone, the small tide pools and the sunset on calm water in one frame, a Galiano Island photo print that looks the way that evening did.

About This Spot
This Galiano Island print was made on the sandstone shore of Montague Harbour Marine Provincial Park, looking out over the harbour toward its mouth with the sun going down over the water. Galiano is reached by BC Ferries at Sturdies Bay, from Swartz Bay or Tsawwassen, and the park is about 10 km west by road, with day-use parking and short trails to the shell beach and the rocky points. In June the sun sets far to the northwest, and the calmest water and best reflections come in the last half hour before it drops.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
