About this Breezy Bay wall art
Saturna Island is the quietest of the Southern Gulf Islands, with one store, one pub and no town to speak of, and about half the island inside Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. On the west shore at Breezy Bay an old dock runs out over the shallows on tyre floats, grey planks and frayed rope, and the view carries across Plumper Sound to Pender Island, where freighters sit out in the deep water.
I walked the shoreline on a May evening in 2012 and found the dock with a rowboat hauled up onto the planks and a second one riding just off the end. The low light caught the peeling paint and the damp wood, and a red freighter sat out in the sound against the Pender hills. I set up low at the landward end so the boards lead out to the boat and the sky.
Saturna gives back in charm what it lacks in facilities, and this dock is the proof. It makes Saturna Island BC wall art with weathered planks, an old rowboat and the last warm light over Plumper Sound, and Saturna Island Gulf Islands wall art I would hang in a cabin by the water.

About This Spot
This Saturna Island print was made from the landward end of an old dock at Breezy Bay on the west shore of Saturna Island, looking west across Plumper Sound to Pender Island. Saturna is reached by BC Ferries from Swartz Bay to Lyall Harbour, about 75 minutes non-stop, and the west shore is a short drive south of the terminal. In May the sun sets over Pender, so the light comes toward the camera and the water and wet wood take on the colour in the half hour before sunset.

About the Prints
The print is on 230gsm archival matte paper, matted with a two-inch Peterboro white core mat, and finished in a thin black wood frame. The most traditional of the three finishes, and the one that suits almost any room.
The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
No customs fees on cross-border orders.
