About this Sturdies Bay wall art
The shore on this side of Galiano Island is low sandstone, crusted with barnacles and rockweed, and on a calm night the water between the rocks goes nearly still. Firs lean out over the edge, a few cabin windows glow through the trees, and a warm band of city light sits along the horizon.
I walked down to the shoreline rocks on a June night in 2013 to look at the lights of Vancouver across the Strait of Georgia. My lens kept turning back to the shore instead, the wet rock running out under the stars and the far glow lying over the trees. I set a 14mm lens wide open for a 30-second exposure and let the still water hold what light there was.
In daylight this stretch of shore looks like any other. This Galiano Island night sky wall art keeps the version most visitors sleep through, and it is the Galiano Island photo print I point to when someone asks what the Gulf Islands look like after dark.

About This Spot
This Galiano Island print was made from the shoreline rocks a short way north of the Sturdies Bay ferry terminal on the southeast end of the island. Galiano is reached by BC Ferries at Sturdies Bay, from Swartz Bay or Tsawwassen, and the low sandstone shore here is easiest to walk at lower tides. On a clear night the stars sit over the water while the glow of Metro Vancouver lies low on the horizon to the northeast.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
