About this Cowichan Bay wall art
Cowichan Bay is a small waterfront village south-east of Duncan, and the Maritime Centre is its long wooden pier, a row of shingle-roofed pavilions on pilings joined by a boardwalk with red rails, ending in a larger pavilion out over the bay. The Cowichan Wooden Boat Society has run it since 1989 on a former Chevron pier.
I was still living on the mainland in 2011, and this was one of many trips to the Island before we moved here. Cowichan is good country for local food, so we stopped for lunch on the way north. The wood of the Maritime Centre caught my eye straight away, and the overcast December afternoon suited it, with flat water, and no glare.
This Cowichan Bay wall art holds the warm wood, the green of the old roofs and the red rails against a quiet bay. As a Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre print it suits a dining room, which seems right for a photograph that began with lunch.

About This Spot
This Cowichan Bay print was made from the waterfront beside the Maritime Centre at 1761 Cowichan Bay Road, looking out along the pier. Cowichan Bay is about ten minutes south-east of Duncan, a short detour off Highway 1, with roadside parking along the village's main street. The Cowichan Wooden Boat Society opens the pier Wednesday to Sunday, 10 to 4. Overcast days give even light on the wood and settle the water for reflections.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
