About this Phipps Point wall art
The tide is far out at Phipps Point on the west side of Hornby Island, and the sea floor is in plain view. Rust-coloured seaweed lies over the rocks and barnacles, small pools hold the sky, and the water in Lambert Channel sits nearly still beyond them. The clouds fan out from the low sun and all of it takes on the same golden yellow.
A low tide does not always line up with sunset, but on this June evening in 2022 it did. I was on the shore a little after nine with a 15mm lens, close to the seaweed so the tide pools would fill the bottom of the frame and the shoreline would lead back to the sun.
The sky gets less than half of this Hornby Island low tide print. The rest is the sea life the water usually covers, lit the same colour as the clouds, so this Hornby Island sunset print holds up from across a room and from right in front of it.

About This Spot
The shoreline just southeast of Phipps Point, on the west side of Hornby Island, opens into a wide bed of rock and seaweed when the tide is low. The old pier is about 200 metres up the beach, and in summer the sun sets across Lambert Channel behind Denman Island. Check a tide table before you come, since this view needs a low tide close to sunset. Hornby is two ferries from Vancouver Island, Buckley Bay to Denman and Gravelly Bay to Shingle Spit.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
