About this Phipps Point wall art
The sun has gone down behind the distant islands off Phipps Point, but the sky over Hornby Island is still lit. Long feathers of high cloud fan out from the place it set, white overhead and orange at the horizon. Lambert Channel lies almost flat, with the same colour on the water, and the sandstone boulders sit in their own shade.
It was June 24, 2022, three days past the solstice, when the days in Canada seem to last forever and so do the sunsets. At seventeen minutes past nine the last rays were still on the clouds and the stars had not come out yet. I turned the camera vertical to give the sky most of the frame and stayed close to the boulders.
Gulf Islands evenings run long in late June. This Hornby Island sunset print holds the end of one, with the boulders already out of the sun and the sky still full of colour. As Hornby Island wall art it is a long June evening on the west shore, to the last of the light.

About This Spot
These sandstone boulders sit at the water's edge at Phipps Point on the west side of Hornby Island, about 30 metres north of the old concrete pier. The view runs northwest up Lambert Channel toward the north end of Denman Island, with the Vancouver Island mountains on the horizon to the left. In late June the sun goes down in that direction after nine, and the colour in the sky lasts well after it has gone. Hornby is two ferries from Vancouver Island, Buckley Bay to Denman and Gravelly Bay to Shingle Spit.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
