About this San Josef Bay wall art
The sea stacks of San Josef Bay are the signature of Cape Scott Provincial Park, at the top end of Vancouver Island. Each one is a pillar of dark rock left standing when the sea cut the headland back, and each has grown its own small garden on top, a few wind-bent trees and a cap of green rooted in nothing but cracks. Twice a day the tide drains off the sand and leaves them standing dry.
We were camped on the beach in September 2020. Low tide and sunrise fell together, which we had planned, and I walked out to the tallest of the stacks and turned the camera on its side to get the whole thing, rock from the sand to the tree on top, with the clouds just starting to colour behind it. The second stack stood in behind like a smaller twin.
A tall frame for a tall subject. This Cape Scott wall art gives the stack the full height of the print, and as a San Josef Bay sea stack print it pairs with the wider view from between the stacks, or stands on its own beside a door.

About This Spot
This Cape Scott print was made on the sand at the west end of San Josef Bay's first beach, at the base of the tallest sea stack, with the camera turned to portrait. The bay is a 2.5 kilometre walk from the San Josef Bay trailhead at the end of the Holberg road, about 65 kilometres of gravel from Port Hardy, and the stacks are only reachable for a few hours either side of low tide. Camp on the beach if you want them at sunrise, since the walk in takes 45 minutes and the drive from Port Hardy takes close to two hours.

About the Prints

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
