About this Morning Beach wall art
Morning Beach is a small cove on the east side of Galiano Island, facing the Strait of Georgia and the mainland beyond. On a warm afternoon it fills with swimmers, and children swing out over the water from ropes tied to the trees along the shore. At low tide the rocks come up through the shallows thick with rockweed, and on a calm morning the water between them holds the whole sky.
In June the sun comes up here around five, early enough that I had the beach to myself. I set a 17mm lens low over the rockweed and bracketed exposures so the bright horizon and the dark rock would both hold, while the clouds turned pink and gold above the distant mountains and the water went flat around the stones.

About This Spot
Morning Beach is on the east shore of Galiano Island, a short drive north of the Sturdies Bay ferry terminal, and BC Ferries sail to Sturdies Bay from Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen. A short public path leads down from the road to the cove, and the rockweed-covered rocks in front of the beach are exposed at lower tides. In June the sun rises over the Strait of Georgia around five, behind the mainland mountains, and at that hour the water is often calm enough to mirror the clouds.
