About this Vesuvius Beach wall art
Vesuvius Bay opens off the west side of Salt Spring Island, looking across Stuart Channel to the hills of Vancouver Island. Sailboats sit at anchor, the small ferry to Crofton comes and goes from its dock, and on a still summer evening the bay goes smooth enough to hold the whole sky.
One of the best things about the Gulf Islands is that you can watch the sun rise out of the sea on one side and set into it on the other. On a July evening in 2022 I went down to Vesuvius Beach for the sunset and found a drift log lying in the shallows, half sunk and angled out into the bay. I set up low behind it so it would lead into the frame, and waited as the sun slid down behind the mountains across the water.
Some evenings ask for very little. A calm bay, one log, the light going down behind the hills. That is the whole of this Salt Spring Island sunset photo print, a Vesuvius Bay Salt Spring Island print for a room where the day should end slowly.

About This Spot
Vesuvius Beach is a small public beach on the west side of Salt Spring Island, just south of the Vesuvius Bay ferry terminal and about 10 minutes by road from Ganges. BC Ferries cross to Vesuvius Bay from Crofton on Vancouver Island in about 20 minutes, and a short path with stairs leads down to the beach from the road. The beach faces west across Stuart Channel, so in summer the sun sets over Vancouver Island and a calm evening carries the colour right across the bay.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
