An April dawn at Goose Spit is one of the best mornings the Comox Valley has to offer. The sun comes up over the Strait, the salt air is cool and bright, and the long line of weathered logs along the spit catches the first light before anything else does.
We were up at 5:15 to make this one happen, my wife and I, and we wandered the beach for a while picking out the right log. This one stood out because it had clearly been doing double duty as a bench for a beach fire. Goose Spit is one of the great Comox Valley spots for a sunset bonfire, so the log had a story already. By the time the sun cleared the horizon, the frame was set.

About This Spot
This Goose Spit print was made on the strait-side beach near the base of the spit at Goose Spit Regional Park in Comox, a short walk from the parking area. Driftwood collects along the pebble beach below the bluff, and the sunrise comes up over the mainland mountains across the Strait of Georgia to the east. Goose Spit is a regular spot for evening beach fires, which is how this log picked up its wear.
