I came down on a February morning, alone, with the kind of low winter sun that turns everything warm before the air ever does. I spent a while walking the foreground, picking out the rocks I wanted in the frame. Once I had them, I set the tripod low, framed the shoreline behind, and waited for the light to fill in.

About This Spot
This Kin Beach print was made on the rocky beach at Kin Beach Provincial Park in Comox, a short walk from the day-use parking at the end of Astra Road, past the air base. The rounded stones sit below the high-tide line, so their colours show best when they are still wet at low water, and the sunrise comes up over the Strait of Georgia to the east, with the shoreline and the houses on the bluff curving away to the north.
