About this Kye Bay wall art
Kye Bay sits on the Comox shoreline below the air base, a long run of rock that steps into the Strait of Georgia in flat, layered slabs. In early March the herring come in to spawn, the sea lions follow, and the sun comes up over the water a little after seven with the tide still moving between the rocks.
I went down hoping for wildlife that morning. There were sea lions offshore and birds working the water, but the light was the most impressive thing to photograph. I put a neutral density filter on the lens, set the tripod low on the slabs, and let a four-second exposure smooth the waves into a haze around the rocks while the sunrise lit the stones in the foreground.
The print keeps the water soft and the rocks bright, with the sun low over the Strait behind. It is Kye Bay sunrise wall art made a few minutes from Comox, and a Kye Bay print that will hold its own on a wall that gets morning light.

This Kye Bay print was made on the rock slabs along the Kye Bay shoreline in Comox, reached from the Airforce beach access on the far side of the air base. The slabs sit below the high-tide line, so they show best on a falling tide at first light, and the sunrise comes up over the Strait of Georgia to the east with the mainland on the horizon.
