About this Chin Beach wall art
Chin Beach sits near the middle of the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, the 47 kilometre coastal route between China Beach and Botanical Beach west of Port Renfrew. At its west end the beach narrows under a cliff with the forest growing to its edge, a green band of algae marking the tide line along its base, and the shore is boulders, rounded and streaked grey, green and ochre by the sea. At low tide the crossing is open. At high tide it is not.
We crossed this stretch early on an August morning in 2015, with the tide just gone out and every rock still wet and slick. Once I was across I planted my feet, turned around and photographed the way we had come, the colours of the stones running back toward the cliff and the point beyond.
Not a sunrise and not a storm, just the coast as a hiker meets it. This Juan de Fuca Trail wall art brings the stones close enough to count, and as a Chin Beach Juan de Fuca print it belongs with anyone who has carried a pack along that shore.

About This Spot
This Juan de Fuca Trail print was made at the west end of Chin Beach, about 21 kilometres from the China Beach trailhead on the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, looking back along the boulders toward the cliff. Chin Beach is a backcountry campsite reached on foot, either along the trail or down the steep unmarked side trail from Highway 14, and this section of shore is only passable at low tide, so check the tide tables before you commit. Overcast mornings give soft light on the wet stone.

The image is dye-sublimated into the coating of a ChromaLuxe aluminum panel, not printed on top. That's what gives a metal print its depth, its luminescence, and its longevity. Comes ready to hang on a hidden mount that floats it half an inch off the wall.
The image is face-mounted behind a 1/8-inch optically pure acrylic panel. The thickness adds depth, giving the print a slight glass-like quality where the image seems to sit just behind the surface. Polished edges, with a hidden mount on the back that floats the print half an inch off the wall.
